Today I added a support strap to a custom dutch door. This was originally a 4′ x 7′ door that I cut in half just above the lock and added a shelf for a room that was remodeled. It is now a check out room for tools at Lyn-Tron. The frame was originally set up for a 3 hinge door application. When I added a continuous hinge with the bottom half carrying the dutch door self it caused the frame to bow slightly and the door did not engage the latchbolt in the strike. My solution was to weld a flat strap of 1/8″ in thick by 1 1/4″ wide by 48″ long, to the frame at midway up the door and then attach it to the studs in the wall to keep it from bowing and causing the lock not to latch correctly.
After this was complete I went to the new Springhill Suites by Marriott in CDA that we installed all the doors and hardware on and did a couple of minor punchlist items. This project was built by Vandervert Construction for KVC Development.
